Through my paintings, I want to convey my joy and happiness in being alive after surviving a life-threatening illness. It is very important to me to express a delight with life and evoke the freedom and wonder of a renewed sense of well-being, as well as offering inspiration and hope.
I create art in series to more fully explore a theme. I start with a layer of texture by making expressive marks on canvas, then add acrylic paint in single layers. I use a variety of brushes, bottles, sponges and other tools to paint bold color combinations and vivid patterns. This method offers fun surprises when spontaneous interactions form unique compositions. Eventually, when I experience the pleasure and enjoyment that I want to communicate to the world, I know the painting is complete. Born in the mountains of Pennsylvania, now living in the mountains of Georgia, I am a mountain girl at heart. In addition to portraits of people and pets, I love to paint all the mountain flowers and critters, and thrill to the sights and sounds of living in such a beautiful world. I came to the world of drawing and painting relatively late in life, but I’ve truly been bitten by the “creating” bug. In addition to the mountain life around me, I am constantly inspired by all of the loves of my life: husband, family, and two very spoiled Golden Retrievers. I work primarily in oil paint, typically applying it thickly with both brush and palette knife.

After receiving a degree in Visual Arts from the University of Texas at Dallas, I enjoyed a lengthy career in graphic design, corporate advertising, product management and later teaching. I love to create art images from the organic forms found in flowers, birds and animals. My graphic design background shows through in my use of vibrant color and strongly defined images. I am happy to say I am pursuing my love of painting in the beautiful mountains of Big Canoe which gives me inspiration every day. I can be reached at [email protected]. You can also see more of my art at fineartamerica.com and search for Barbara Jensen Art. "How Now Cow" Acrylic on gallery profile canvas |

Katherine started painting as a hobby about 6 years ago after retiring from a lengthy career in local government. Her inspiration was her mother, who was 92 when she started painting! Katherine paints mostly in oils and watercolors- landscapes, animals, birds, and portraits. Chip Oil 6x8 on panel |

In my past life I owned a Public Relations firm, specializing in crisis planning for not-for-profits and the military. My husband Keith and I retired at the same time in 2011, left Florida and built our dream home here in Big Canoe. While I started working with glass 40 years ago, a busy life put all my artistic endeavors on the back burner. Now that we are retired, I am fully living in my right brain! I work mostly in acrylics although I am currently taking an online course in oil. My style is mostly Impressionism but lately has wandered into abstract. When not in my studio, Keith and I spend our days golfing, hiking, and kayaking. My husband is a creative as well and the largest collector and supporter of my work.
