Kat Alikhan

Picture

I began my artistic aspirations five years ago as a photographer. I still love photography, but I came to realize that one of the things I love best about it is editing my photos to look like paintings using Photoshop and other post-processing software. So, I decided that I needed to become a painter, too.  Being a beginner at this stage of life can feel daunting, but also thrilling. I am loving it, and as Vincent van Gogh said, "I am seeking, I am striving, I am in it with all my heart."

Jacqueline Doyle Allison

Picture
Through my paintings, I want to convey my joy and happiness in being alive after surviving a life-threatening illness.  It is very important to me to express a delight with life and evoke the freedom and wonder of a renewed sense of well-being, as well as offering inspiration and hope.

I create art in series to more fully explore a theme. I start with a layer of texture by making expressive marks on canvas, then add acrylic paint in single layers. I use a variety of brushes, bottles, sponges and other tools to paint bold color combinations and vivid patterns. This method offers fun surprises when spontaneous interactions form unique compositions.
Eventually, when I experience the pleasure and enjoyment that I want to communicate to the world, I know the painting is complete.

Monica Burnette

Picture
Born in the mountains of Pennsylvania, now living in the mountains of Georgia, I am a mountain girl at heart. In addition to portraits of people and pets, I love to paint all the mountain flowers and critters, and thrill to the sights and sounds of living in such a beautiful world.  I came to the world of drawing and painting relatively late in life, but I’ve truly been bitten by the “creating” bug.  In addition to the mountain life around me, I am constantly inspired by all of the loves of my life:  husband, family, and two very spoiled Golden Retrievers.  I work primarily in oil paint, typically applying it thickly with both brush and palette knife.

Claudia Campbell

Picture

Claudia considers herself to be an intuitive, emotional painter. Her work is inspired by her spiritual sensibilities; her love of nature, and the human journey. She believes that the spirit of a work of art transcends the image and is representative of the unconscious longings in the human soul. She thinks of her paintings as icons or metaphors of inner realities that are veiled or hidden in the physical elements of paint, paper, color, and canvas. It is her hope that the works she creates will provide a source of connection and meaning for the viewer.
For over 40 years, Claudia has taught, practiced, and developed her  unique artistic style. Her fine arts degree included two years in New York, a year of intensive work and art study in Florence, Italy, and two years at Indiana University. She has continued to study with established artists in the Atlanta area and has shown her work throughout the southeast. She has been represented by several Atlanta galleries.

Tony Hicks

Picture

I was going crazy during the pandemic.  We quarantined early during the pandemic since my then-73 year old mother lives on our terrace level.  My wife suggested I find some at home hobby to keep my mind off not seeing friends.  Hello Bob Ross!  I guess my new hobby was the best little "happy accident" in my life!  Our screened porch became my place to relax, paint and breathe the fresh air.  At least I will have one fond memory of the pandemic!

Lynn Mayes

Picture
The images in my paintings represent feelings and emotions drawn from life experiences - both mine and others’.  I don’t have total control over the painting process, i.e. I don’t have a detailed idea of the finished product when I start to paint, only the feeling.  The painting then develops  its own identity, and it’s not always what I had originally intended.  I have learned not to be afraid of failure because some of my best work began as a failure and ventured  into uncharted and exciting waters.

After spending many years in Tampa, Florida, Carolyn now resides in the Mountains of Big Canoe, Georgia.  Carolyn has been recipient of numerous awards in many art shows. She studied Oil Painting for many years under the direction of Tampa noted artist, Kathi Hobbs.    “I paint what I know and love, but also, try to challenge myself with something new. I paint mostly from photographs that I have taken and roll the image around in my mind before I actually transfer it to canvas. Keeping a camera close by to capture God’s beautiful artwork to paint is always                                                                                                                                                 the challenge."

Robin Sievers

Picture

In my past life I owned a Public Relations firm, specializing in crisis planning for not-for-profits and the military. My husband Keith and I retired at the same time in 2011, left Florida and built our dream home here in Big Canoe. While I started working with glass 40 years ago, a busy life put all my artistic endeavors on the back burner. Now that we are retired, I am fully living in my right brain!  I work mostly in acrylics although I am currently taking an online course in oil. My style is mostly Impressionism but lately has wandered into abstract.  When not in my studio, Keith and I spend our days golfing, hiking, and kayaking. My husband is a creative as well and the largest collector and supporter of my work.

"Sunrise" Acrylic on canvas, 16x20 inches.
